The Pinto was Ford’s feeble attempt at creating a compact car for the domestic market. Nevermind that they already had a pretty good econobox in the European Fiesta, they foisted this on the American public exploding gas tanks and all. Fortunately not built to last, so few are left in “driving condition”. However I look at it and want it. I guess we all want things that are bad for us.

Lightweight, rack and pinion steering, upper and lower control arm suspension up front and a V8 fits? Other than that minor detail about explosions I don’t see a problem here.

That’s what I don’t get - it could have been better. A lot better.

I’m strangely drawn to them too. Keenesburg isn’t that far from me...

This.
On paper it seems perfectly reasonable and fun, but actually driving one is...not that great. But I get the appeal.

I didn’t realize you could get a Pinto that wasn’t a hatchback. Nice. This would certainly be a good conversation piece at car shows.
